Use caution when transporting Lawn Care Equipment
As a business owner the last thing you want to do is crash your expensive equipment into a tree on a rainy day. Potential injuries, insurance claims, damaged equipment and unserviced customers are not fun things to deal with.
I was driving in the rain today and had a close experience, I felt the trailer start to hydroplane and pull my whole truck into the next lane. Luckily I was able to regain control, slow down and regain my composure.
I wanted to throw out a quick reminder to all of the Lawn Care Business owners out there that are in a hurry to get to their next job. I understand that we all want to stay on schedule and keep customers happy but we all need to understand the risks while hauling our equipment.
This especially goes for you young guys that have perhaps never driven with a heavy trailer off the back of your vehicle. It takes some getting used to. Don’t think you’re an expert right away and get yourself in trouble. If you aren’t quite sure if your trailer is going to hit that mailbox have a coworker get out and give you some signals on how close you are. The last thing you want to do is ruin someone’s mailbox and ding up your trailer.
Make sure you take things slow as you get used to driving with a trailer on the back of your vehicle and don’t ever forget its back there! That equipment is your life blood – without it you can’t service lawns and if you can’t service lawns you don’t have a business.
So no matter how far behind you are on your schedule, make sure you take caution and your employees understand that their safety comes first.
